      <title>The Last of Us Development Series Ep. 3: ‘Death and Choices’</title>

We then explored the game world and nature&amp;rsquo;s reclamation of civilization as we know it in &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://youtu.be/Kfhk7ejvNyc"&gt;our second video, Wasteland Beautiful&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;. Our third video, Death and Choices, investigates what it means to be a survivor in the world of The Last of Us and how Joel and Ellie cope with the harsh realities of post-pandemic society.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;Survival is moment to moment in the world of The Last of Us. There are stark consequences to every decision that&amp;rsquo;s made and if Joel and Ellie want to survive they&amp;rsquo;ll need to scavenge the environment for every possible advantage. Learning to craft more potent weapons from makeshift materials or take defensive precautions using found objects will be critical to their continued survival.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;Up next, our penultimate video in the series will spotlight the combat mechanics and the intimate nature of conflict in The Last of Us. The in-depth documentary we have been creating grew so large that we are currently seeking a unique way to distribute it. After discovering that the girl is being hunted by ghostly creatures, he embarks on his own journey into the mysterious world of rain to save her and discovers he has also become invisible. Players will play as the boy, whose silhouette can only be seen in the rain. Using the unique ability to appear and disappear under cover players must learn to navigate through the unknown to advance. Just like in the real world, what can be seen isn&amp;rsquo;t everything and using imagination is the only way to reveal the truth.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="left" style="min-height: 8pt; height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;#160; &lt;span lang="EN-US"&gt;Throughout the game you will be challenged to think ahead and plan your movements to advance. For example, when you direct the boy underneath cover, he will disappear from enemy view, or to draw enemies away from your path you may need step into the rain to become visible or can pick up items to taunt them. More details will be shared on these mechanics and puzzles at a later date. Those who have played &amp;ldquo;Heavy Rain&amp;#8221;, a title also produced by Quantic Dreams, should have found its impressive cinematic storyline charming. This cinematic title has always been my favorite game. However, this time around Quantic Dreams has chosen not to produce a sequel to &amp;ldquo;Heavy Rain&amp;#8221;, instead, they started this brand new title &amp;ldquo;BEYOND: Two Souls&amp;#8221;, which does not tell of a murder like &amp;ldquo;Heavy Rain&amp;#8221;. &amp;ldquo;BEYOND: Two Souls&amp;#8221; takes players through the story of heroine Jodie Holmes (Ellen Page) from the age of eight to twenty-three. Since she was born, Jodie has been connected with Aiden, an invisible entity. She is gifted with supernatural powers but plagued with pain known to nobody. For example, there is a scene of Jodie being inside a fire scene when the elevator fails to work. Players can play as Aiden to leave the elevator, pushing away luggage stuck at the door of another floor so that the elevator can function again. The entity Aiden is invisible, flies and can pass through any object. Aiden can also move objects and even possess people. It&amp;rsquo;s up to players to consider how to make use of Aiden&amp;rsquo;s abilities depending on the situation to overcome challenges and continue through Jodie&amp;rsquo;s life.&amp;#160; Retaining &amp;ldquo;Heavy Rain&amp;#8221;&amp;rsquo;s choice-centered gameplay, players will be constantly making decisions, and each small decision can lead to a different ending - just like in real life. Those who have played &amp;ldquo;Heavy Rain&amp;#8221; before should remember that when close battle takes place they have to press buttons according to the directions displayed on-screen to unleash attacks. The same QTE controls is not used in &amp;ldquo;BEYOND: Two Souls&amp;#8221;, instead, during the hands-on session we saw Jodie receiving close combat training. Players can make use of the analog sticks to unleash attacks of different levels, such as kicks or uppercuts. Actions also slow down during battles to facilitate easier controls. By not retaining QTE controls,&amp;#160; &amp;ldquo;BEYOND: Two Souls&amp;#8221; lets players be more immersed in the gameplay and to experience together with Jodie a grappling and thrilling life journey spanning 15 years.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8233/8594412210_df1c7db38d_z.jpg"&gt;&lt;img alt="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8233/8594412210_df1c7db38d_z.jpg" class="jive-image" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8233/8594412210_df1c7db38d_z.jpg" style="font-family: 新細明體, serif;"/&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Hollywood Stars and Their Eyes Took Part in the Acting&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Lastly, what must be mentioned about this title is that Hollywood stars Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe have taken part in the development of this title by actually &amp;ldquo;acting out&amp;#8221; the game characters. Most scenes of the title were produced by Motion Capture- sensors placed onto the actors&amp;rsquo; faces and bodies, to detect each action and expression for further production. More than 90 sensors were placed on each actor&amp;rsquo;s face, no wonder producers claim that even the actors&amp;rsquo; eyes have taken part in &amp;ldquo;acting&amp;#8221;. More than 12 months were spent filming for the game, involving more than 300 characters, which is something that makes this title a much anticipated one, not to mention the brand-new game engine!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8529/8593311791_5b24d2ae42_z.jpg"&gt;&lt;img alt="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8529/8593311791_5b24d2ae42_z.jpg" class="jive-image" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8529/8593311791_5b24d2ae42_z.jpg"/&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 8pt;"&gt;David Cage, Creative Director of &amp;ldquo;BEYOND: Two Souls&amp;#8221; presented the title to the press inside the Motion Capture studio.
